Sarah’s Pledger Lake Camp, located 129 miles upriver from Fort Albany, Ontario, is a family-run tourism business with deep roots. Sole Proprietor Joanne Hookimaw grew up here with her late grandparents, who originally operated the camp.
Known to the family as Keeyushkunnee, Pledger Lake has been part of their heritage for generations. Reviving her grandmother Sarah’s dream, Joanne continues the tradition by welcoming visitors to share in the beauty, tranquility, and culture of this land.

The camp is home to incredible wildlife, from birds and fish to larger animals that roam the northern forests. Guided by a First Nation host with deep ties to the land, visitors gain not just sightseeing opportunities, but cultural context and traditional knowledge that make the experience more meaningful.

During the open seasons, guests can join guided fishing trips across Pledger Lake and surrounding waters. With the guidance of a local expert, you’ll have the chance to catch fresh fish and take part in hunting excursions that respect tradition and the land. These activities are offered only during the appropriate months to protect wildlife and preserve the environment.

When the lake freezes, the camp transforms into a winter wonderland. Guests can strap on snowshoes, cross-country ski along the shoreline, or travel across the lake on snowmobiles. These activities highlight the beauty of winter in the north while offering a safe and adventurous way to explore the land.

Beyond seasonal activities, Pledger Lake offers year-round opportunities to slow down and reconnect. Canoeing, boating, birding, or simply enjoying a walk along sandy beaches provide moments of peace and reflection. The camp is equally suited for personal escapes, family gatherings, or business retreats where nature inspires rest and renewal.
Accommodations include two 14’x16’ tent-frame cabins with 8’ walls, designed for simple comfort in the wilderness. These cabins will eventually be upgraded to insulated structures, but many guests enjoy the rustic charm of their canvas rooftops. Inside, you’ll find the basics — cups, plates, and a propane stove — along with practical amenities like generator power, a freezer, kitchen area, internet, and even smart TVs. Warmth comes from a wood stove, while outdoor cooking is easy with a BBQ and propane deep fryer. Boats, canoes, and snowmobiles are also available, making the cabins the perfect base for exploring the land and lake.

Includes cabins, kitchen access, boat rentals, guide services, and camp maintenance.
